Here is the first one. It had a garish faux gold finish but felt super solid. I saw an almost identical one at a garage sale that went for $25.

Instead of priming first I just sprayed some OSH semi gloss white onto the gold just to see what happened.
I love the final product. Not perfect, in fact in person some of the gold peeks through but I like it that way; shabby but perfect!

oooo very cool! Congrats on your find
ReplyDeletebeautiful...isn't it amazing what a little spray paint can do? If it would only warm up here....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Great job, T. Quick question: Did you remove the mirror to do the painting or did you tape it off somehow. I have a mirror and the spray paint and want to go for it, but the mirror part can't come out and I'm not sure how to tackle it.

Thanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteRenee, I taped off the inside of the mirror with newspaper and painters tape. I made sure the newspaper was under the lip of the frame so I could get the inside portions of the inner frame nearest to the mirror. HTH!
Good job! I heart spray paint :)
ReplyDeleteI have soo been looking for a similar mirror for my daughter's room! They are either not the right size, or too plain! This one is perfect! Love it!

Good find and great redo. I have been finding these old mirrors repainting them and selling them in my antique mall space, can't find enough, they sell like hotcakes!
